Downgrade PSP - It's Not That Difficult!

PSP (PlayStation Portable) is quickly becoming one of the most sought after gaming items. Of course, a PSP offers much more than just gaming, movies, internet, music, etc... The graphics, sound, and ease are compelling to many users. However, because the firmware is constantly being updated, there are often compatibility problems.

See, when you decide to upgrade or buy a new PSP you will get current features and tools. Great right? Well, not always. The downside is that you will also get security and authentication features. Many of these added features are not congruent with the older games and movies. If not compatible with the current operating system, the movie or game will not play correctly or play at all.

Furthermore, some Playstation Portable users may want to be able to run homebrew programs like they could with earlier versions. If you are unfamiliar with homebrew, it is a broad term to describe programs that are created by individuals. Store bought programs are made by technology companies. Many homebrew programs have unique features that can not be found with commercial programs. For example, the first PSP messenger program was created by a homebrew programmer.

Incompatibility and blocks on homebrew programs can be solved by restoring the PSP firmware to an earlier version. This process is called a "downgrade." There are step by step directions on "how to downgrade" for each software version. Some require additional steps like, an upgrade prior to the downgrade. Most people wonder if they can upgrade again after they downgrade. You can upgrade, downgrade, upgrade, downgrade, etc.. to meet your current needs.

Of course, every time you downgrade you are risking your PSP. Only you can decide if the benefits to you outweigh the risk. Before considering downgrading, you should be aware of the following risks:

1. Downgrading will void the warranty. In other words, if you downgrade your PSP, and then there is a separate problem with it in the future, the manufacturer will not honor the warranty. It doesn't matter whether or not the problem has anything to do with the downgrade.

2. Downgrading your Playstation Portable can be dangerous to the hardware.

3. You are downgrading at your own risk. It will up to you to follow the instructions on the downgrade. If done correctly a downgrade can set you up to enjoy most homebrew programs, games, movies, etc. But one misstep, and your PSP will be in the trash.

Determine Streamyx Zone Firmware There are several different versions of PSP Firmware. To see what type of firmware you have, just go to the main menu find settings> system settings> and then system information. There you will see: "System Software Version ____. This is your firmware version. Use your firmware version to dictate if there is a downgrade available, and what type downgrade you will use.
